The chatroom can get busy so print this page out and keep it at your computer for quick reference. If you do get a big crowd in the room, don’t worry, just remember what you are there to do, and that there is help if you need it! This is ministry and may very well turn into a witnessing opportunity so before you log into chat, make sure you pray!
If you run into a situation in the chatroom that you do not feel comfortable handling use the “Report Trouble” link located at the top right of the chat screen. This link will take you to a form where you can fill in the details of the situation. The form will be sent to the TruthMedia staff member on call who will respond.
Your primary task is to watch over the room and facilitate the discussion. This doesn’t mean that you have to answer all of everybody’s questions, rather it means, welcoming people when they join the room, keeping the discussion on track and keeping the room peaceful. Take a few minutes to look through the resources that available – most of the questions you will have about chat are answered on these pages.
Terms and tools to know
Terms of service – read and be familiar with the terms of service. As moderator, you may need to remind chatters of the rules from time to time.
Ignore Button -- the ignore button can be used to block a disruptive chatter while you wait for a response from a trouble report. To use the ignore button, highlight the name you want to block and then click “ignore”. Their posts will no longer show on your screen, however your posts will still be visible to them. Show other chatters how to use this button if needed.
Trouble Report – as mentioned above, the trouble report is there for your safety, and the safety of all chatters in the room. If a chatter is using racist, hateful, obscene or vulgar language, use the trouble report. The TruthMedia staff member will be able to block the chatter from the room.
Private Chat – Private chat lets you talk to a person in the room one-on-one, others in the room will not be able to see your posts. To use Private Chat, highlight the name of the person you want to talk to and click “Private”. Use PC if you need to remind a chatter of the rules, or to encourage chatters to be respectful of people of different faiths, or more gentle in their approach to evangelism.
Transition to the Gospel – just like an in-person conversation, in the chatroom you may get the chance to steer the conversation towards spiritual things and share the gospel. Print out the page at http://training.truthmedia.com/mentoring/share.html for a list of ways to transition to the gospel in the chatroom. If someone gets saved in chat, get their email and send it to mentoring@thelife.com for follow-up.
